Since its formation in 2021, The Millers Bay Conservancy has:

  • Increased public awareness of Eurasian watermilfoil’s threat to Millers Bay, the Okoboji chain of lakes, and our tourism-based economy, through TWO separate professionally-produced videos (newest video below!), a podcast and recurring radio spots with KUOO, full-page color public service announcements in Okoboji magazine, newsletter articles, flyers distributed at our booth at the Okoboji Blue Water Festival, and social media.

  • Encouraged more kayaking and paddleboarding in the No-Wake Zone of Millers Bay, the premier spot for the paddlesports on West Lake Okoboji with its calm waters and extensive natural shorelines, by purchasing and installing a kayak launch dock for the public’s use and by putting on Millers Day Paddlesports Day with Lakeside Lab each year since 2021.

  • Advocated for a more visible, active law enforcement presence on Millers Bay at peak usage times to deter illegal or dangerous conduct and increase recreational safety, especially for the large number of children swimming and paddleboarding off anchored family boats.
